Everyone celebrates the new year once the clock strikes midnight on January 1st.
That’s a given.
What’s something that is not talked about a lot? How about the saying “New year, new me.”
That saying is probably the most contradicting statement that could ever be said.
Sure, it is a new year, but does that mean it will be a new you? No.
Personally, that statement is the worst thing you could ever say. Why wait for a new year to change your life? Why not start tomorrow or today? Does everything need to begin when a new year begins?
Rather than a “New year, new me” type of article, I’m here to share the lessons I learned this past year, which I hope you don’t have to. After all, reading about lessons is better than living through them.
1: Don’t wait for anyone. If you constantly wait for another person to try new things, you will be waiting a long time.
2: Fear is inevitable. As you grow, anxiety will be more present in things you do (especially when you age). Don’t let it dictate what you can and can’t do.
3: Take the opportunities. When an opportunity arises, don’t shy away—take it in strides.
4: Control your reaction. When situations arise, you will react with your emotions rather than logic. Learn to control your reactions.
5: Consistency is now always a straight line. Setback are normal, consistency is not a straight line.
6: Put your needs first. Even people pleasers need rest before they take care of others.
7: Rest and Recover. Don’t forget, or you will be burnt out.
8: Keep learning. Whether it’s taking classes or reading, don’t stop learning.
9: Try something new. It’s easy to stay in our comfort zones, but growing means trying new things and going to new places.
10: Never compare yourself to others. Every situation is different. You’re not behind in life; you’re exactly where you must be to get where you’re going.
Until next time,
Sweet T.
