“Ignore it. It’ll go away.”

Has anyone else been subjected to this line or a similar one in their lifetime?

We’ve been conditioned to ignore problems in the hope that they will take care of themselves, thus allowing us to focus on better things.

But you should never ignore the problem.

Here’s why:

1: Problems Fester

When you leave a cut alone, does it stop bleeding? “Oh, but those are circumstantial cases.” Regardless of the type of case, if you wouldn’t leave an open wound untreated, why should you ignore a problem you have in hopes it will take care of itself?

The more you leave a problem untreated, the worse it becomes, until one day, it becomes too big a job to handle.

2: Emotional Awareness

We can’t help the way our bodies react to specific problems. However, you can become aware of the situation and learn to take steps towards resolving it.

3: Understanding Yourself

When you become aware of problems arising in your life, you can use that as an opportunity to analyze why you’re having a visceral reaction. This helps us understand ourselves and where boundaries need to be placed in our lives.

It also enlightens us about situations we like or dislike and can shape our personalities as we grow.

All in all, ignoring the problem may have been the problem in the first place. Rather than understanding situations, we would rather continue with our lives, not knowing that the situation could very well shape our lives.

On the contrary, maybe for the sake of your mental health, you need to ignore the problem. There’s nothing wrong with that. But don’t ignore the situation so well that you refuse to understand why you needed to ignore it in the first place.

We’ll talk soon,

Sweet T.
