There’s this concept of good versus evil that has existed for generations.

It’s where society gets its social norms from, which everyone can attest to so that nobody ‘falls’ out of the ordinary.

But rules are meant to be broken from time to time.

1: the ‘Greater Good’

Outdated norms exist. Today, we challenge those norms to fit our society. Do we knock on a person’s door that we’re interested in and ask their parents for permission to start seeing them? No (at least, not that I’ve seen).

Phones were invented, so communication before meeting the parents has gotten simpler.

Other things like traditions are still upheld, although they are based on different standards to fit modern society’s rules.

2: Life Saving Measures

A good example of this would be breaking the speed limit to save a person’s life. We do things against the rules, laws, social norms, etc., because it’s a life-or-death situation. We’ll always choose life over regulations.

3: Morals

There will come a time when your ethical morale will be questioned to the point where you will have to choose one option or the other. For example, you may have to choose between challenging the discriminatory actions being thrust upon you or breaking the law for your basic human needs (e.g., stealing food for your starving family).

Breaking the rules to justify your morals (in this case) is okay. Nobody knows what it’s like to go without food for long periods, nor would they understand if a law was unjust.

The rules were set as guidelines to prevent chaos. However, if your actions are justified and outweigh the repercussions of doing them out of spite, then there should be no worries.

On the contrary, when you don’t follow the rules, it also gives others credit to forgo the rules. Imagine if every individual around the world forgone the rules. Absolute chaos would ensue. Therefore, think before you do.

We’ll talk soon,

Sweet T.
