They suck. Plain and Simple.

Most people also lack the skills to cope, and this is natural. We are not taught some of the things we desperately need to learn.

But as an adult, you need to take care of your needs first. The best way to do that is to understand and guide yourself through the turbulent times you face with negative emotions.

Here are some strategies I learned along the way:

1: Slow Down

When you’re dealing with negative feelings, you need to slow down. Sometimes, it means you’re getting ‘sick’ (mentally or emotionally). It’s a sign to slow down. If you don’t slow down willingly, your body will force the break.

2: Feel

This one is controversial. It’s easy for us to want to distract ourselves to instantly feel better. Temporary pleasure.

Unfortunately, the only way to feel better in the long run is to accept your emotions and be vulnerable, even if it’s for five minutes.

3: Create Something

The best way (I found) that helps you cope and feel better when you’re not at your best is by creating something new.

It could be a drawing or making a new recipe that you’ve always wanted to try.

Create. When you create, the satisfaction that runs through you will be so positive that you’ll start to feel a sense of control within yourself that will ease your mind while it’s uncontrollable.

Negative feelings are normal. We can’t control how our bodies react. Still, we can guide ourselves to help cope with these feelings until we eventually grasp why we feel these feelings and overcome (and eventually) understand what’s causing us to feel this way.

We’ll talk soon,

Sweet T.
