Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

Okay, hear me out.

Some people tend to indulge in the fantasy of how they’re the superior human, regardless of bleeding the same blood as the person next to them.

Society has labeled these people as narcissists, arrogant, and egotistical if I am thinking correctly.

As we go through life, we will come across somebody like this. It is not an if but a when.

The most crucial advice I can offer when encountering someone like this is to be kind.

Stay with me.

People who believe they are superior think that they are always right, their word is law, or they have some type of control over you (this usually happens in a work environment when you and a coworker are the same title and, but again, they believe they have seniority rights [but that’s a different story] Anyways…).

They will say or do or say things that will push your buttons. Stay calm and walk away from the situation.

It is not worth your ego, safety, or energy to waste time on people who would not think twice about putting you in that environment.

There have been countless times when I’ve encountered a person who thinks their opinion is the only one that matters. And I will admit, I used to fight back tooth and nail to try and put them in their place.

The reality is that nobody should think they’re superior to somebody else just because of status, age, or gender.

But the thing about fighting back with somebody who has this sort of complexity is the mental toll it will take on you. Not them, but you.

As I went through my 20s, I realized how much more satisfying it is to be kind to these people.

  1. I was keeping the peace within myself.
  2. They no longer occupied the space in my mind.
  3. It may or may not agitate the other party because you refuse to conform to their standards in life.

If I’d learned this sooner, I’d most likely have less stress. But you can’t turn back the clock. So here’s to hoping this helps you when you face similar situations.

Until next time,

Sweet T.
