Let’s be real.
As we’re navigating our early 20s, we feel like we can’t take time to ourselves. There’s too much to do, and so little time to waste.
Self-care is the last thing on our minds.
I get it, I’ve been there. I felt as if everything needed to happen right now, there was no in between.
Unfortunately, while I was stuck in that mentality, I realized I started to feel burnt out and got treated less as a human, and more as a working robot. Taking a break was not longer an option I had available.
That’s when I knew it was time I had to take care of myself. Even if it was simple steps.
Here are the top 3 things I do daily, that help me feel seen by myself.
1: Skin Care
Whether you acknowledge it or not, our skin is the largest organ in our body. We do multiple steps a day to ensure the majority of our body is clean and taken care of.
But what about our face?
It took me quite a long time to figure out, our face is the first thing people usually see when they look at us. Either our eyes, mouth or smile, our face is one of the attractive feature on our bodies.
For that, we need to give gratitude to our face by taking proper care of it.
Now, I’m not saying you go out and buy a two hundred dollar, twelve-step skin care routine. Starting out with a simple face cleanser will go a long way.
From there, you’re able to feel and see a difference in your skin.
Some of the products I invest in, is a facial cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. These are especially important if you decided to cleanse your skin in the morning.
Using sunscreen in the morning will help block harsh UV rays. This is a must, if you work in the sun all day. (If you want product recommendations, let me know in the comments)
Investing in your skins health helped me tremendously. It will feel like a chore, but the results in the long run, will be worth it.
2: Working Out
Okay, I know it’s anxiety inducing, self-doubting and exhausting process to get up and exercise or go to the gym.
Trust me, I felt the same way when I first started out.
It felts as if others were much better than me. Their muscles were defined, their confidence was amazing and they didn’t seem to have the same anxiety I felt stepping into their space.
Realistically speaking, they were better than me. They are the product of being consistent and disciplined.
Did that mean I couldn’t be the same as them? No. It just means that they got a head start.
Everybody has a starting point. Whether it’s somebody’s first time working out, or another continuing their journey in working out everybody start at the 5 lb. weights.
Being able to watch myself grow from carrying the 5lb. dumbbells to being able to lift sixty-five pounds on the bar is indescribable.
If you put aside your mental doubts, even if it’s for 5 minutes to walk into your workout space, it will elevate your confidence.
Investing in our physical health by exercising may coincide with bettering our mental health. This will be a test of your mental health.
I believe you can overcome it, do you?
3: Being in The Sun
This might sound crazy, but being able to get your vitamin D naturally, is very underrated.
Taking supplements everyday is more common now, then it should be. Some can’t help it, because of their circumstance, others can.
Now, I’m not a doctor and I don’t know if I ever will be, but I can tell you from experience, being in the sun for 5 to 10 minutes a day, within the first hour or so of being awake, makes a difference.
Majority of our time is spent inside closed spaces and behind a desk of some sort.
It’s the new normal. Does it suck? Yes.
Not being able to get fresh air and sunlight the first thing in the morning should be a crime.
Many of us, take that for granted from day to day. I did for the longest time. But that’s the thing about time, it changes us.
Experiences change us.
Investing in time to get one of your vitamins naturally, will be worth it. Whether it’s by doing a short activity under the sun or simply stepping outside of your apartment.
It’s worth it.
Being able to incorporate small changes into our lives, for ourselves to better ourselves, creates changes in our routine that will help our health for the better.
Again, it will be tedious and you won’t want to do it everyday. But that’s how change starts, with consistency.
Complicated routines, makes way for an easier lifestyle.
Be humble, be consistent, be mindful. I believe in you.
Until next time,
Sweet T.
