Let’s be real…

Change is scary.

Now, there’s two routes that I’ve seen taken.

1: Staying in Your Comfort Zone

There’s nothing wrong with doing things that are within your comfort zone. We all have our reasons for doing the simple things that keep us sane in our day-to-day lives.

Certain things (that I have control over in my life) are what I like to call ‘non-negotiable’.

For example, I have to sit in the aisle seat on the right side of the airplane in the aisle closest to the window. But, I can’t be too close up front nor can I be too far back. (It’s complicating, I know)

Staying in my comfort zone, comes from anxiety. I’m aware and conscious of that.

But here’s the thing that I learned from staying in my comfort zone.

Opportunities that arose for me throughout the years of staying in my comfort zone, have come and gone without acceptance. I’ve missed out on many opportunities that would have helped me grow as a person.

The ‘what ifs’ that go around in my head now, don’t subside.

Some of us can live our whole lives in our comfort zone, and they thrive. While others stay in our comfort zone afraid of failing.

2: Taking the Leap

As I’ve said before. Change is scary.

It’s not for everybody.

With that being said, taking the leap and making the change in your life will bring out a different side of yourself, that you never knew existed.

Going through my early 20s, I’ve always wanted to solo travel. Of course, at that time, I was staying in my comfort zone because of my anxiety.

The news were reporting more violence than good, and as tensions rise in the world, it’s not safe to step outside your house, let alone your comfort zone.

My dream to become a solo traveler was just that, a dream.

Until, I decided one day ‘I’m not missing out on life anymore’. Countless opportunities slipped through my fingers and I won’t let anymore.

So, despite how afraid I was of change (because I do not like change at all) I took the leap and went on my first solo trip.

Let me tell you, I will never forget my first solo trip. There were many highs, but there were also lows that were inevitable. Though, through it all, I learned more about myself and what I’m capable of through that trip.

Since that trip, I’ve went on countless more. Some even spanning internationally!

Every new experience I embrace no longer is looked through anxious lenses. Instead, I’m able to embrace new lessons and even better memories.

Change is scary. The first decision you make when embracing change will be the scariest of them all.

Don’t let the feeling of change hold you back. An remember, I’m rooting for you through it all!

Until next time,

Sweet T.
